Accident at Fayetteville, North Carolina

On August 5, 2009, the Boeing Of Canada/Dehav Div Dhc-8-311 aircraft (registration N328EN), operated by Dynamic Aviation Group, was involved in an accident at Fayetteville, North Carolina (United States), leaving 1 injured. Source: the NTSB (United States).

What happened

On 5 August 2009, after levelling at 14,000 feet above sea level, the crew allowed the drinks service. Shortly afterwards they saw cloud ahead and asked ATC to climb above it, but were not cleared because of traffic above. The captain told the flight attendant to stow the cart and sit down because of expected turbulence. The aircraft entered the cloud layer and ATC turned it 80° right towards a waypoint; during the turn, the first officer saw a small precipitation cell on their path and turned a further 30° to avoid it, but the flight met about 15 seconds of moderate turbulence. The cart and the flight attendant were thrown into the air and, on landing, she suffered open fractures of the left tibia and fibula. She told the captain and two passengers helped secure the cart; even so, she went on making all the safety announcements. An emergency was declared and the flight landed without further incident, and she was taken to hospital. A subsequent test of the weather radar was satisfactory. Source: the NTSB (United States).
