Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Accident at Java Sea, off Karawang
On October 29, 2018, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft (registration PK-LQP), operated by Lion Air, was involved in a fatal accident at Java Sea, off Karawang (Indonesia), leaving 189 dead. Source: Lion Air.
What happened
A miscalibrated angle-of-attack sensor made the 737 MAX's MCAS system, which the pilots knew nothing about, push the nose down again and again after take-off from Jakarta. The crew fought it for eleven minutes before losing. All 189 people on board died. It was the first of the two accidents that grounded the MAX worldwide for twenty months.
