On January 15, 1963, the Convair CV-240-0 aircraft (registration PP-CEV), operated by Cruzeiro do Sul, was involved in a fatal accident at barrio de Jabaquara, en la aproximación al aeropuerto de Congonhas, São Paulo (Brazil), leaving 6 dead on board and 7 on the ground. Source: Cruzeiro do Sul.
What happened
The Convair 240 was flying from Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo. On approach to Congonhas, in heavy rain and poor visibility, the crew began a go-around and lost control. The aircraft came down on several houses in the Jabaquara district, less than a kilometre from the runway. Six of the 45 people on board and seven residents on the ground were killed.
