Accident near Isparta

On September 19, 1976, the Boeing 727-2F2 aircraft (registration TC-JBH), operated by Turkish Airlines, was involved in a fatal accident near Isparta (Turkey), leaving 154 dead. Source: Turkish Airlines.

What happened

The 727 flying from Istanbul to Antalya began descending at night far earlier than it should have, the crew convinced that the lights they saw were the airport's, and struck a mountain more than a hundred kilometres from its destination. All 154 people on board died. It remains the worst air accident on Turkish soil.
