Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Accident at Persian Gulf, off Manama
On August 23, 2000, the A320-212 aircraft (registration A4O-EK), operated by Gulf Air, was involved in a fatal accident at Persian Gulf, off Manama (Bahrain), leaving 143 dead. Source: Gulf Air.
What happened
The A320 arriving from Cairo came into the Bahrain approach too fast, began a go-around at night over the sea and, with no visible horizon, the captain pushed the nose down until the aircraft struck the water. All 143 people on board died. The investigation described a classic case of spatial disorientation and an airline that had not trained the manoeuvre.
