Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
On 27 November 2008, the Airbus A320 registered D-AXLA was on an acceptance flight off the coast of Perpignan before being returned to its lessor after the lease to Air New Zealand. During a low-speed check, two of the three angle-of-attack probes were blocked — they had frozen after water became trapped during a wash of the aircraft days earlier — so the flight protections did not act; the aircraft stalled at low altitude and fell into the sea. All 7 people on board died: two pilots, an engineer and four Air New Zealand representatives. Source: XL Airways Germany.
