Also: express carrier, integrated carrier, express integrator
Express delivery company that controls the whole chain, from collection to delivery, with its own aircraft and sorting hubs, offering a door-to-door service.
Unlike a traditional cargo airline, which moves freight from airport to airport and leaves collection and delivery to others, an integrator handles the parcel's entire journey with its own vans, aircraft and sorting centres, tracked in a single system.
Networks usually revolve around a large overnight hub: aircraft arrive from many cities in the late evening, parcels are sorted through the night, and flights leave again before dawn so that deliveries can be made the next morning. FedEx Express runs this operation from Memphis and UPS Airlines from Louisville, both in the United States; DHL's main European hub is at Leipzig.
Their fleets range from large long-haul freighters to turboprops on short feeder routes.
